"News of the World"

Tom Hanks stars in this breathtaking period drama that beckons to be seen on the big screen.
Five years after the end of the Civil War, Capt. Jefferson Kyle Kidd (Hanks) is a newsreader, someone who travels from town to town and literally gets paid to read the news to the locals. Hence the title of this fine film.
In his travels, Kidd crosses paths at the scene of a murder with a 10-year-old girl taken by the Kiowa people. Forced to return to her aunt and uncle, Kidd agrees to escort the child across the harsh and unforgiving plains of Texas. However, the long journey soon turns into a fight for survival as the traveling companions encounter danger at every turn -- both human and natural. Rated PG 13
