Tribute to Legendary Songwriters

It all starts with a song, and four Savannah songwriters will honor the legends that gave us some of our favorites. This exclusive concert follows last summer’s sold-out tribute of the same name and features the songs of Paul Simon, John Lennon, Steve Earle and Lyle Lovett.

John Cranford, frontman and principal songwriter for Hilton Head’s Cranford Hollow Band, performs the simple, yet timeless songs of Paul Simon. From “Mrs. Robinson” to “Graceland,” there’s a lot of ground to cover.

Ty Thompson, guitarist for the ‘60s British Invasion tribute band The Hypnotics, will be performing the music of John Lennon. Ty enjoys Lennon’s music, both his Beatles and solo material because of its well-written lyrics and clever musicality.

Robert Cooper, a Savannah native, has been playing guitar all his life and began writing songs in his twenties and continues to this day. Cooper says, “Steve Earle’s music stands as one of the pillars upon which Americana has been built. They represent an archive of a life lived in music and in the world.”

And Ben Wells, a Savannah singer-songwriter and mainstay of the Savannah Songwriters Series, is performing the music of East Texas’s literate lyricist and bandleader Lyle Lovett, who hailed from the world of Western swing but who covers the genres of jazz, blues, country and even gospel in his diverse catalog.
